CHANDIGARH: Haryana finance minister Sampat Singh on Monday announced in the Vidhan Sabha that on popular demand the state government had decided to withdraw professional tax.

CHANDIGARH: Haryana finance minister Sampat Singh on Monday announced in the Vidhan Sabha that on popular demand the state government had decided to withdraw professional tax.
The minister, who was replying to the debate on the state budget for the year 2004-05, said that the decision had been taken in accordance with the sentiments expressed by various sections of society.

Professional tax was levied in May 2002. Its withdrawal would benefit a number of people engaged in the professions of starred and unstarred hotels, private hospitals and nursing homes having more than five beds, petrol pumps, wholesale kerosene depots, gas agencies, agencies of vehicles, private colleges, including professional colleges,, English medium schools having enrolment of 100 students or more, financial institutions, property dealers, builders and contractors, jewellery units, dairy units with ten or more milch animals, manufacturing units employing more than ten employees, cinema halls, furniture showrooms, restaurants, clinics and medical laboratories, computer training centres, typing colleges, coaching centres, company authorised showrooms, distributors of all types, health clubs, amusement parks, service stations, medical stores, chemist shops, electronic goods shops, printing presses, video parlours and general stores.
